Excursion

We do this annually.

During the Holy Week, we would take advantage of the fact that a lot of people are inside their homes or praying in the churches. After Visita Iglesia, we would take a tour of Metro Manila.

The whole Metro Manila.

We would fill the car with gas and then start our trek in places we don't usually go.

Like Avenida...

Bluementritt...

Binondo...

Malabon...

Caloocan...

It's mostly the northern part of Manila.

For me, it's more like a family thing. Since my brother and I learned how to drive, and the fact that my dad only comes home about 3 times a year, it's the perfect way to bond and see the metropolis. But I'm having this gut feeling that this is more for my parents.

They would usually drive up to the University Belt, where their colleges were. They would never fail to show us the street where their boarding house once stood... my dad's boarding house is now a ladies' dorm! I think it's a nice way for them to reminisce their college times. After all, I don't deny the fact that it's one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Dad would always tell us how he walks from his boarding house to his school... that the food they usually have is fried galunggong... that once, he was almost a victim of holdup...

Mom would point out the place where her boarding house once stood. Then tell us where she buys her 2nd hand books... that she would go to Divisoria all by herself, check out shops the whole afternoon and come home with having purchased just one blouse!...

It was nice, seeing the gleam in their eyes as they tell us their own college experiences.
